McMurdo Casestudy

The Challenge

McMurdo’s inhouse design team was experiencing difficulties developing a new project. As the project fell behind schedule, McMurdo decided to engage external design expertise to support the internal team deliver the new product, an emergency position-indicating radio beacon (EPIRBs), on time and to specification.

The new EPIRBs had to incorporate a list of performance features, including water resistance, destructive manual activation, a test feature for regular inspection and automatic activation when immersed in water.

Fundamental to the new design was a visible brand language, ensuring the shape, colour, materials and finish fluidly communicated the company’s values and personality to the consumer.
